I am collecting words and names which have delighted me - and this one just made me laugh out loud.
And then in the window, what should The Hairy Fig be advertising but quail eggs. As a child I remember my father talking about quail eggs but I was never quite certain if such a thing really existed. In my mind they belonged in the category of 'hens' teeth' - i.e. probably didn't exist but I wasn't quite sure...
The quail eggs are the little spotted ones. Some of the larger hen eggs look like the blue-shelled ones my Aracana hens lay. If you enlarge the second picture by clicking on it you will read that the eggs were laid 'by Camilla and her feathered friends..."
There is a price of £1.50 on the quail eggs - not clear if this is per egg or per something else. Are quail farmed? Or has someone stolen eggs from a nest?? Must find out more about this.
PS I did and they are...see http://www.gardenquails.com/index.html
While on the bird theme. I saw a robin today. Great excitement. Such a pretty, perky bird. Also lots of large water fowl - ducks and geese? This was while walking on the Ings (another wonderful word).
