Beningbrough Hall

Some images from Beningbrough Hall, a National Trust property just north-west of York which also houses a number of works from the National Portrait Gallery in London. The day was misty and cold but there were still families with little children enjoying the interactive portrait-related activities (great!) inside the house and the children's playground and garden walks outside.

The rear view!

I was re-reminded of how well the National Trust manage their properties, in every sense. No fanfare, no intrusive signs, few reminders that one is a tourist. Everything superbly maintained. The  greatest possible emphasis on providing a high quality and authentic experience.

Something about arches...

Beningbrough has a wonderful walled garden and the gardeners were out in force, working in the chill. At this time of year one has the advantage of seeing the 'skeleton' of the garden. For example, the different forms of espaliering...

I also discovered wooded areas covered in tiny snowdrops which, given the temperatures, is a little miracle...

And I made a friend at the neighbouring farm...
