A foggy, drizzly day yesterday and I trotted off to the station to catch a train to Leeds - a city I haven't visited before. Spent quite a bit of time in the Art Gallery (see next post) and the rest wandering around the central city. Impressions? Very multicultural (in a way that York is not). Very youthful. Full of contrasts - for example extravagant new shopping precincts check by jowl with the old (but thriving) covered markets. Not a 'beautiful' city architecturally but it had a sense of vibrancy. Some great public sculpture.
I was very taken by the shop windows - some of which were works of art in their own right. Here are a couple of examples...
This is Vivienne Westwood's shop in the prestigous Arcade area...
...while this was just one of many skeletons featured in the Firetrap shop!!
